Heat give up late lead, lose series opener

The Barbagallo Perth HEAT have lost their series opener to the New South Wales Patriots at Baseball Park tonight, relinquishing a late-innings lead to lose 5-3.

The Barbagallo Perth HEAT have lost their series opener to the New South Wales Patriots at Baseball Park tonight, relinquishing a late-innings lead to lose 5-3.

NSW got on the board early, when Trent D’Antonio scored on a Lachlan Dale fielding error in the 1st.  The HEAT took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd, when Tim Kennelly doubled down the left field line to bring in Chris House from 1st base andlater scored on a throwing error by Andy Graham.  

Mitch Dening levelled the scores in the top of the 4th with a homer to right centre.  

The game remained tied until Nick Kimpton brought in Mitch Graham with an RBI single in the 8th inning, before the Patriots rallied to score 3 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 1-0 series lead.

Patroits youngster Matthew Rae earned his maiden Domino’s Claxton Shield victory on the mound, while Benn Grice was saddled with the loss.

The HEAT have a chance to level the series when they take on the Patriots tomorrow night, with the first pitch slated for 7:05pm.
